Commercial Vehicle Tire Rotation and Balancing

Commercial Vehicle Tire Rotation and Balancing

What Happens During Tire Rotation & Balancing Service

Although tires come with a warranty, they need occasional service just like other parts of the vehicle. They support a lot of weight at high speeds and are expected to wear down over time.

Rotating and balancing your tires will help them to wear evenly and perform more consistently.

Other factors may also come into play such as hitting a pothole or parking curb which requires the tires to be balanced in order to maintain function as they were designed.

Why Tires Need to Be Rotated & Balanced

Tire rotation follows a set pattern of changing the tire positions, typically by moving the front tires directly to the back, the rear left to the front right position, and the rear right tire to the front left.

This process assures the tires wear evenly over the course of time individually from left to right, and between each tire according to the weight of the vehicle. By assuring even wear the tires will last longer and can be replaced at the same time.

Balancing tires is essentially moving a small weight along the rim to assure centrifugal force remains constant as the tire turns.

What Happens if these Tires Services Aren’t Conducted

Not having the tires rotated isn't necessarily going to cause a flat or make the car break down, but will make the tires wear unevenly and faster than expected. Although tires aren't expensive in the overall scheme of car ownership, there is no need to replace them more often than needed.

By rotating the tires, wear is spread across the entire surface to assure they get the longest possible lifespan. Rather than needing replacement because the outer (or inner) edge is worn smooth while the rest of the tire still has traction.

Balancing the tire, typically done at the same time, provides a smooth ride by distributing the weight in tandem with the alignment. If the tires aren't properly balanced the car will take on odd vibrations and become uncomfortable for the driver and passengers.

Finding a Certifed Service Center

Although a local tire shop can rotate and balance the tires effectively, a dealer knows better what the manufacturer recommends and can, therefore, do the job more efficiently. Tindol Ford in Gastonia, NC and serving Charlotte along with the local areas of Mt. Holly and Belmont employs only experienced and trained technicians who know how to conduct the job and do it right the first time.

We also know how to visually inspect the areas of the vehicle for any potential damage before it causes a problem, so you can get back on the road without further concerns.
