Earl Tindol, our founder and my father, bought the Ford dealership from Buddy Lewis in 1974. Earl has been in the car business his entire life, beginning in Savannah, Georgia where he started as a lot porter and car washer on the used car lot at Bowyer Motors. He quickly worked his way up to salesperson and then Used Vehicle Manager by the time he was in college. He met my mom at the Savannah Chamber of Commerce while collecting Toys For Tots for the Air National Guard, they married soon after, and he took a dealership manager position at a Ford dealership in West Palm Beach, Florida. From there, he became the New Vehicle Manager at a Ford store in Orlando, Florida where we lived for several years. When the Ford store in North Carolina became available, Earl brought our family to good ole Gastonia, and the rest is history! Here we are 36 years later, still loving what we do!
I started in the business working after school and on Saturdays while in middle school and high school. I did filing, answered the phones, completed odd jobs, and pretty much any gopher duty you could think of....which I loved! I attended Gardner Park, Holbrook, Ashbrook (roll wave!) and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and spent three summers waiting tables and working at a resort in south Florida. My dream was to be a Cruise Director for a large cruise line, but after graduation, I worked for Dad for a few months helping him get "organized" and fell in love with the car business all over again! Luckily, Dad had me work in every position in every department over the next 8 years, so I did everything from change oil (with a little help of course!) to balance accounts, to deliver parts and even clean the bathrooms! So I gained a real appreciation for every single employee at our store. I finally earned a manager position in 1995 and bought the store from Dad in 2002 when he was ready to retire and spend more time with Mom. We added Lincoln Mercury in 2007 and it's been fast and furious ever since! We've never been happier!
